What does the Public Forum Policy do?


Tweed Shire Council has created the Public Forum Policy to set clear rules for how public forums are run and when they’re held. These forums give community members a chance to speak directly to Council before formal meetings.

The policy makes sure public forums are open, respectful, and well-organised. It supports the Code of Meeting Practice, which was adopted by Council in December 2025.

The policy makes sure public forums are open, respectful, and well-organised. It supports the Code of Meeting Practice, which was adopted by Council in December 2025.


What does the Public Forum Policy do?


This is an updated policy following the release of the Office of Local Government's Model Public Forum Rules and livestreaming guidance. Additional provisions have been added to the policy, covering privacy, conduct and procedural matters to better align with the OLG's approach and ensure best practice.


What does the Public Forum Policy do?


Having a standalone Public Forum Policy makes it easier for community members to find information about how public forums work. It also helps ensure forums are run in a fair way, consistent with OLG guidance.
