Why chat? Council’s Let’s Chat program is about working with the community to create stronger, more connected neighbourhoods.
Getting to know your neighbours and benefiting from the great things a strong neighbourhood brings makes us happier and our kids feel safer.
The program's goal is to have neighbours that are comfortable to have a chat with each other both in happy times and at times when something needs resolving. Many of us are already at this stage!
How does Let's Chat help me? Let’s Chat will give tips on important things like supporting people to work out long lasting solutions to neighbourhood problems together. You can get involved and co-design these tips and messages for our community - you know what works for you and what doesn't. Getting involved is a great way to have your say!

Project start - community engagement at Living for the Future Expo and Murwillumbah library
Let's Chat has finished this stage
Kids and adults at the Living for the Future Home Expo in (...month) 2017 and at the Murwillumbah library gave us feedback on their neighbour relationships and ways to get neighbours chatting. People also showed us what’s good and not so good about neighbours by painting picket fence palings. You may have seen the picket fence at the Tweed or Murwillumbah Offices - check out the photos section of this page!

As part of the Let’s Chat project, Council promoted
Neighbour Day and encouraged residents to get involved and hold an event on the
day, however big or small. The
survey showed that a lot of people have very positive relationships with their
neighbours and think their neighbours are important
Neighbour Day is run by
Relationships Australia and is on the last Sunday in March every year. Council is registered as a Very Neighbourly Organitsaion

Thank you to everyone who had their say through the 'Design Key Messages with Us' survey - we received 104 responses! We closed the survey on 20 August and two lucky people won prizes.
We are now analysing the responses and will report back soon with new messages that we will then start to roll out. We may also hold face to face workshops.
The messages will used in a range of resources and across social media and out website to encourage people to resolve neighbourhood conflict. It's important that the messaging used in the project reflects what the community needs and in language that means something you to bring about change.
We have developed some messages to kick off discussions and asked people what they thought of them, or design new messages.
