Future of Fingal Head

The Fingal Head community have been active in providing Council with feedback during the Fingal Head Building Height Review and again as a part of the early stages of consultation for the Fingal Head Locality Plan.

In recent years there has been growing community concern about development pressure on Fingal Head and the threat this poses to the special and highly valued character of the area. The development of a Locality Plan for Fingal Head is one way Council can respond to this community concern. Locality Plans are part of Tweed Shire Council’s commitment to balancing environmental, social and economic considerations to develop the Tweed in a sustainable way.

What will the Fingal Head Locality Plan do?

The Locality Plan will define the community’s shared vision for the future and will create a set of planning goals and actions that will help to achieve that vision, by protecting the valued local character of Fingal Head.

The Fingal Head Locality Plan will:

  • provide guidance for future decision making around protecting natural areas and significant heritage, and improving public spaces.
  • identify and provide solutions to pressures such as traffic and car parking problems and support the community’s changing housing needs.
  • help the community understand how they can be a part of protecting their local area now and into the future.

Creating a shared community vision

The Community Vision should describe the ‘shared community values’ that everyone in the community agrees are important to the future of Fingal Head.

Based on feedback from the Fingal Head Building Height Review and early stage Community Conversations in May 2019 , Council has created four ‘concept’ Community Visions. These concepts are examples of what the final Vision could look like, and the types of things it could say.

All four concepts talk about the same shared community values, but present them in different ways, with a different theme, layout, and different levels of detail.

Tell us what you think about the four Community Vision concepts below.

What next?

Once you share what you like and don’t like about these four concepts, we will use what you say to improve and refine them into two drafts that the community will then be asked to vote on.

The winning Community Vision concept will then become the main guide for Council and the community when deciding which planning goals and actions should be included in the Fingal Head Locality Plan.
