Cudgen Foreshore Park, Kingscliff
over 2 years agoTell us what you think about the proposed upgrade to Cudgen Foreshore Park, Kingscliff
We are proposing the following open space improvements:
- relocating a new playground 50m south from Jack Julius Park to a more centralised location in Cudgen Foreshore Park (to replace the existing equipment);
- re-turfing Jack Julius Park and retain as green space;
- installing new seating and picnic tables;and
- a new pathway to improve connectivity between Vulcan Street and Cudgen; Foreshore Park and pathways to connect the various park elements, including the existing public toilet.

Shade is important many playgrounds are just not able to be used because of the sun. it would be great if you could consider shade sails or large trees surrounding the playground.

Food allergy affects 1 in 10 Australian children. Follow in other's footsteps and instal a sign that asks food not be eaten on the play equipment and that children wipe/wash hands before using.

Shade trees There are many ideas that can be utilised for park upgrades. But, sadly, the focus tends to be on items people want to use for active engagement. Especially in summer, the parks that attract families, the more mature and kids especially are those with big shady trees with large canopies. These allow visitors to escape the sun, take picnics, and generally relax. Perhaps the best example in the (larger) region is the use of the Banyan trees at New Farm Park (Brisbane). While these trees are mature, the example demonstrates how valued they are by park lovers. So, my suggestion is to design the park around large spreading trees. And, when implementing the eventual design, select as mature trees as possible to assist in the earliest enjoyment of the shade.
