Council's proposed Alcohol Free Zones 2021-2025

Consultation has concluded.

The public exhibition period for Councils proposal to re-establish alcohol free zones in selected areas of the Tweed has now closed.

Benefits to residents

Alcohol Free Zones allow early intervention by Council to prevent the escalation of irresponsible drinking in a public places, improving public safety by preventing incidents of serious crime.

Duration and monitoring

If approved the re-establishment of the proposed zones will be in place form December 2021 until December 2025. The proposed zones cover roads, footpaths, and public car parks; excluding those businesses approved by Council for the purposes of footpath dining whilst those businesses are trading.

The below five zones are enforceable seven days a week 24 hours a day:

The below zone is enforceable annually from 4pm on 31 December to 10am on 1 January, for 18 hours.
