Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation
Consultation has concluded
The Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation, a three-stage $21.8 million project being undertaken by Council to protect and enhance facilities along the Kingscliff CBD coastline, is almost complete with the park set to be open to the community in early 2018.
- Stage 1 will construct a permanent sea wall to protect the Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club, Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park and Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club from erosion caused by storm events and projected sea level rises
- Stage 2 will refurbish and modernise the facilities and services at Kingscliff Beach Holiday Park, to better meet the demands of the visitors to the town, including a greater emphasis on cabin accommodation.
- Stage 3 will create a Kingscliff Central Park, a community hub linking the Kingscliff central business district with the beach by providing oceans views from CBD businesses on Marine Park and establishing paths for improved beach access.

Temporary home for Visitor Information Centre

A new building for the Visitor Information Centre will open in Central Park next week.
VIC volunteers will be housed in the temporary building while the Community Hall is upgraded as part of the revitalisation project, and will be able to provide details and updates on the project’s progress.
Security fencing along the south-west corner of Central Park was moved back towards the beach today, to allow pedestrian access away from the road and carpark. It will be moved back further in coming weeks, once paving around the cenotaph is completed.
The fence has been scheduled to be moved earlier this month but was postponed by a rescheduling of work.

Help use choose four quotes from community members to feature in Kingscliff Central Park.We recently invited residents to submit their own original quotes, about the town and the new Central Park, to be engraved into pavers in the park landscaping.
We received many great submissions and have compiled a shortlist of 14 that cleverly capture the community’s love of their town.
Now we invite you to vote for your favourite quote. The four quotes that receive the most votes will be featured in their own paver.

Last few spots for revitalisation tours

A small number of places remain for tours of the Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation on Tuesday 1 July, as part of Local Government Week.
A great community response quickly booked out the two initial tours, prompting the inclusion of a third tour at 11am.
Four places remain for the one-hour tour and anyone interested in participating should email sgreen@tweed.nsw.gov.au. It will be a case of first in, first served.

Pandanus to be moved

A pandanus located immediately south of Cudgen Headland Surf Life Saving Club will be relocated to the new Kingscliff Central Park as part of its early landscaping for the Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation.
The mature tree is extremely close to the surf club building and would need to be removed when the club undertakes a planned facility upgrade of the facility. Access to transport lifesaving equipment to and from the beach would then be via land currently occupied by the pandanus.The club building and surrounding paths is also restricting the tree’s growth.”The works currently being undertaken in the new Central Park provide a great opportunity to transplant the tree now and relocate directly into a new position within the park,” Kingscliff Foreshore Revitalisation Project Manager Stewart Brawley said.The tree is expected to be moved during the next week or two.

Rock wall nearing completion

Work on the northern end of the rock wall has connected to the existing wall fronting the Kingscliff Beach Bowls Club.
Contractors are now working on the connection between the rock wall and the concrete steps, as the new rock wall nears completion.
The SeeCivil team is also close to finishing the lower section of the concrete steps at the sea wall’s southern end.
Many of the concrete paths in the area fronting the cenotaph have been constructed and fencing along Marine Parade south of the carpark could soon be moved back to allow public access to the footpath along Marine Parade.
