What is the background to this policy?
The draft Scenic Landscape Protection Policy is the culmination of extensive research and testing informed by evidence-based research on how to measure and apply a framework to assist in the assessment of visual impacts of development on the landscape.
As early as 2016 Council began investigating the application of evidence-based research on measuring and assessing the value of scenic landscapes.
What are the Council implications of this Policy?
Tweed Shire Local Strategic Planning Statement 2020 outlines the need to protect the significant landscapes and the defining visual characteristics of the Tweed. The purpose of this policy is to ensure that these exceptional and unique landscapes are recognised, and actions are taken to ensure their protection to the greatest extent practicable in the context of new policy, development or land use.
