The Draft Uki Village Concept Plan has been developed in consultation with land managers and key stakeholders including UKIRA, the Uki Public Hall & Recreation Reserve Trust, the Uki & South Arm Historical Society and the broader community.


The community was invited to comment on a draft plan to improve the public spaces in the Uki village centre, which aims to preserve the area’s natural and cultural heritage and make the parks more accessible.

Local residents and businesses were encouraged to provide further input to help achieve a shared vision for the public spaces in Uki village centre and to improve the recreational and cultural experiences.

An online and hardcopy survey was available from 27 October to 8 December 2021.

We held a Community Information Session at the Uki Farmers Market on Saturday 4 December 2021 from 8 am to 12:30 pm and discuss your ideas and feedback on the draft plan in person.


What is a concept plan

A concept plan is a vision for how an area can be cared for and/or developed into the future. It may express how an area can grow and change over time. It can also express a commitment that an area remains the same or be preserved.


Why we're developing a concept plan for Uki Village Centre

When we consulted the Uki community to develop Council’s Open Space Strategy (2019–2029), the community prioritised the development of a concept plan for the Uki village centre to improve pedestrian amenity and streetscape character.

The Uki village centre is surrounded by a beautiful natural environment, well-loved by the local community and enjoyed by an increasing number of visitors.

The concept plan will define a shared vision for the area to inform future applications for funding.


What the plan includes

The draft concept plan considers park facilities, connecting pathways, tree planting for natural shade, river viewing opportunities, improvements to car parking and accessibility. The plan also considers improvements to the existing buildings that are on land managed by the Uki Public Hall & Recreation Reserve Trust and UKIRA.


Improving open space in the Tweed

This project is part of our commitment to protect and improve the quality of the Tweed's open space network. This commitment and the actions we plan to take are described in the Open Space Strategy (2019–2029).


What's next

Land managers will review the community feedback, which will inform a review of the final concept plan.
