The function
Public art can perform many functions for a community.
As well as enhancing each location's visual amenity, the public artworks proposed in this project will:
- create a welcoming gateway to Murwillumbah and Kingscliff and their surrounds
- highlight these major regional towns as destinations for cultural tourism
- express community aspirations, enhance local identity and promote a sense of place
- enhance cultural and natural heritage
- create an opportunity to inspire and develop artistic talent
- express a local creative identity
The proposed art work at Wommin Bay Road will also serve to reduce the incidence of graffiti attacks, as well as creating an attractive entrance.
A prominent artwork at the Alma Street roundabout at will create links between the Murwillumbah town centre and the Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre, helping to tap into the large number of visitors to the Gallery and MOAC and attracting them to the town centre.
