You are invited to have your say on the proposed future use for the Kingscliff communications tower located within Crown Reserve, Faulks Park Kingscliff.
Objective
To re-open the process for the community to have their say for the future use of the Kingscliff communications tower.
To get your input on the future use of the tower, including a cafe/kiosk and water safety surveillance.
Background
In 2016 Council undertook public community meetings to discuss possible uses for the tower. During the consultation it was clear the community wanted to see the tower to continue to be used as a water surveillance platform.
In November 2018 Council sought Expressions of Interest (EOI) from the community asking for submissions for the future use of the tower.
Three of the four submissions received included a proposal to include a kiosk/café in the tower refurbishment and for Surf Life Saving to provide water safety surveillance. As this proposal triggered a need for Council to seek development consent and a procurement provision to tender, the EOI process was closed. Development consent to include using the tower for a take away food and drink premises was granted in July 2020.
In October 2020 Council passed a resolution to finalise the refurbishment of the tower. Council also resolved to undertake works to improve public safety and accessibility to the tower including adding a new hand rail to the existing retaining wall and an extension to the access ramp. As these works were resolved by Council they do not form part of the consultation process.
Proposed New Works and Alterations
Currently, a take away food and drink kiosk is proposed for the ground floor and a potential arrangement with SLS for water safety surveillance activities are proposed for the first floor of the tower. A plan detailing the proposed new works and alterations can be viewed in the document library.
Have your say by completing the online survey below.
