Consultation has concluded

On 21 February, 2019 Council endorsed the public exhibition of Draft Illegal Dumping Strategy 2019-2021.

We are seeking input from the community in preparation to have the draft strategy finalised for adoption by Council later this year.

Illegal dumping is an environmental crime that is ongoing and highly visible problem in NSW. Illegal dumping varies from small bags to rubbish in an urban environment to large scale dumping of waste materials in isolated areas, such as bushland.

Illegal dumping poses risks to the health and safety of our community as well as to our environment. It is estimated to cost rate payers over $84,000 every year to investigate and clean up illegal dumping.

Overview of the Strategy

The overall goal of the strategy is to preserve, protect and enhance the appearance and health of the natural environment of the Tweed Shire.

Its primary objectives are to raise community awareness of the effects of illegal dumping and thereby encourage positive community action to reduce the volume of waste in the natural environment of the Tweed Shire.

The strategy supplements existing actions with proposed new measures to encourage community support in the bid to prevent and reduce illegal dumping.

Read the draft strategy in the document library.
