Should Council have the option to waive or reduce fees after a natural disaster event?

You're invited to have your say on the proposal to amend the Fees and Charges 2021/2022 Revenue Policy.

Why are we proposing to amend the policy?

The current flood event has presented extenuating circumstances where post event clean up costs to residents could be elevated due to increased water usage charges and waste disposal fees. Council would like to reduce or waive fees and charges after a natural disaster event such as a flood or bushfire.

What changes are being proposed?

It is proposed to create a 'natural disaster event' category under Section 610E of the Local Government Act, that will provide Council with options to waive or reduce fees in the future by way of Council resolution.

Submissions close on 20 April 2022.

It should be noted that in accordance with Council policy and the provisions of the Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 – ‘GIPAA,’ confidential information contained within submissions may be released upon a request being made by a third party.
