Murwillumbah St, Murwillumbah

In 2025, Council will be replacing street trees in Murwillumbah and improving amenity through trees, low planting and infrastructure such as additional seating. This project will be completed in 2 phases (subject to funding for phase 2).
Phase 1 will plant 4 new street trees and include the addition of furniture and landscaping elements to bring shade, cooling and beautification to Murwillumbah's main street and Brisbane street. The project will take up to 6 weeks to complete (subject to weather), taking 1-2 weeks at each of the 4 locations. There may be noise, dust and traffic disruptions during construction, but these will be kept to a minimum. Please refer to the Planned Works Notification from early May.
Council is coordinating project details with contractors and will continue to communicate with businesses and community members once specific timing is available.
The previous trees were located in the concrete blisters adjacent to car parks, but have been progressively removed due to ill health of the trees and ensuring the safety of people and property.
These street trees provide value to the overall amenity of the main street in Murwillumbah, making it a place where people are more likely to linger, shop and be active in the community.
The Cool Towns Urban Forest Program is focused on increasing the quantity and quality of tree canopy in the Tweed, providing shade and cooling in the places we live, work and play.
