Consultation has concluded
One of the main functions of Council is protecting and sustaining community life and the environment through its role as a regulator for a large range of legal duties and powers given by relevant legislation.
Council’s Compliance Section is responsible for this work and it undertakes activities such as investigating illegal building works and land uses, illegal vegetation clearing, companion animal matters, illegal dumping (rubbish & vehicles), illegal parking and the management of Council’s Animal Impounding Facility.
Council is preparing a new draft Compliance Policy to reflect changes in regulatory processes and evolving community needs. The policy will provide clear principles and guidelines for Council Authorised Officers (such as Rangers and Parking Officers) to act promptly, fairly, consistently and effectively in response to unlawful activity.
This is an important policy and it’s something Council wants the community to have a say on. You may have recently seen Council’s Service Planning survey that was distributed recently with the Tweed Link. Compliance is one of the services Council is seeking feedback on.
As part of the engagement process, Council is also conducting a short additional survey (see below) relating specifically to compliance.
Your feedback will help Council develop a compliance policy that best meets the expectations of the community.
