Consultation has concluded

Each council in NSW is required to adopt a Code of Meeting Practice based on the Model Code of Meeting Practice prescribed under the Local Government (General) Regulation 2005.

This code applies to all meetings of councils and committees of councils of which all the members are councillors. The Model Code of Meeting Practice is comprised of mandatory provisions, and non-mandatory provisions. Councils can choose whether or not to include non-mandatory provisions.

A Council's Code of Meeting Practice can vary from the Model Code of Meeting Practice, but can be no less stringent and must contain the mandatory elements of the Model Code of Meeting Practice.
