Council to replace Anthonys Bridge in 2015, following upgrades to Stokers Road and Bakers Road

At last Thursday's (11 December 2014) Council meeting, it was resolved that Council:

  1. Temporarily closes Mistral Road during the replacement of Anthonys Bridge.

  2. Includes a cycleway on the downstream side of the new Anthonys Bridge at a cost of $150,000 in the 2015/16 budget.

  3. Undertakes pavement rehabilitation on 5 sections of Stokers Road and 1 Section of Bakers Road before the Anthonys Bridge replacement commences and funds the $1,586,000 required to complete these works by adjusting the current roads programs in the December 2014 budget review.

  4. Officers initiate the process of formally naming the bridge in accordance with Council policy.

The vote was unanimous.

You can view the full resolution in the Minutes of the Ordinary Council Meeting, Thursday 11 December 2014 (pages 18-19).

These resolutions take into account the considerable feedback received from the local community and, where possible, address some of the concerns and aspirations expressed in your submissions.  All submissions were presented to Council in a confidential attachment.

What happens next:

Rehabilitation works on Stokers Road and Bakers Road are scheduled to commence in February 2015.

Following this, construction of the replacement bridge is expected to commence in late May 2015.

Prior to the commencement of the bridge replacement, Council will notify residents by placing roadside signage along the approaches to the bridge, in both directions and an advertisement in the Tweed Link.  Project updates will also be published here on Your Say Tweed, so visit this page regularly to stay up to date.
