Community feedback was central to shaping the Ageing Well in the Tweed Strategy 2024 - 2029.
Insights gathered in-person at the 2024 Tweed Seniors Festival, feedback from community groups, and health and aged care providers plus survey responses—178 community responses in total—helped us understand what matters most to older people in the Tweed.
The Ageing Well in the Tweed Strategy 2024 - 2029 was adopted by Council on 20 March 2025. The Strategy was developed to guide Council in creating an age-friendly community where older residents feel valued, supported and connected.
The draft Ageing Well in the Tweed Strategyhas been developed to provide strategic direction so that we can ensure the Tweed is an age friendly place that meets the needs of the community, a place where people feel valued, supported, and connected as they age.
Community engagement summary
During the Tweed Seniors Festival in March 2024, we asked community members, groups, and health and aged care providers for their thoughts on what an age-friendly community looks like in the Tweed. We also ran a community-wide survey that got 178 responses. All this feedback helped us put together the draft document.
Why it matters
The Tweed is facing an ageing population driven by increased migration of middle aged and retirees.
Older people make a significant contribution to our community as family members, mentors, volunteers, skilled worker and carers.
It is important to have the right supports and services available in the community as people age.
